I don't know about anybody else's family, but in my family getting my children to eat healthy is a bit of a chore. Anything that is green is avoided entirely, most orange veggies are out, but, occasionally, I can get something red into them…like red sauce.
As moms we work so hard to make the right choices…We make sure they eat the right foods at the right stages, that they have enough fruits, vegetables, fats (good fats!), dairy and everything else to promote proper brain and body development. Unfortunately, when they get to the age where they can express their own opinion, they refuse to eat anything that is good for them.
I haven't found the answer to this problem, but I have found a product that helps me relax by knowing that they are getting all of their vitamins and minerals. It is a product called Yummi Bears made by the company Hero Nutritionals. These vitamins are shaped like Gummy bears, they even taste like Gummy bears, but are good for you. My four year old prefers the sour version and my 5 year old loves the good old fashioned gummy bear taste. The vitamins have 100% daily recommended doses of vitamins A, E, B-12, folic acid, iodine, zinc, and pantothenic acid (a type of calcium). It also has 75% or less of the daily recommended dose of vitamins C and D.
There are other ingredients in these vitamins as well, they are all natural and they are names that I can pronounce, which seem to be uncommon these days. Yummi Bears multi vitamins even come in vegetarian form, so no animal products are used. The flavors are all natural fruit flavors, my children call them cherry, orange, and lemon.
Although Yummi Bears are not a reason to stop trying to get those green, yellow, orange and red veggies into our children, they can offer peace of mind when the only thing on the plate that is eaten is Mac and cheese!
