We have all been thinking about Valentines Day and here at Whats Hot for Tots, the pages have been inspiring perfect mementos for that February 14th date. However, there is another date just a little closer. This year Super Bowl Sunday, the National Football League's championship game is February 4th in Miami with a contest between the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears, for Super Bowl XLI.
The first Superbowl tickets were sold for the game on January 15, 1967, but the game was not called the Super Bowl until 1970. The game was named after a Christmas gift received by Lamar Hunt's child. Hunt, the owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, gave the name Super Bowl to the NFL's championship game, coming from his children's toy, a Super Ball.
So gather your tots and your favorite snacks and enjoy this annual event. Statistics note that 8 million pounds of guacamole and 14,500 Tons of chips are consumed on Super Bowl Sunday. May I suggest the kids stick to your well planned and nutritious diets? We have some great recipes on The Whats Hot for Tots message board recipe pages.
Another phenomenon which has evolved on Super Bowl Sunday is the extravagant television commercial. The average cost of a 30 second commercial is $2.6 million. This year Doritos, Chevrolet and the NFL itself held contests for amateurs to create ads, hence the new buzz word "user generated content". Watch for the winning ad to be revealed during Super Bowl XLI. Let us not forget half time! Think purple, as Prince is set to perform in the Pepsi Super Bowl XLI halftime show and watch for the awarding of the one-of-a-kind Pepsi sterling silver Super Can, studded with diamonds, rubies and sapphires. The winner will also win Super Bowl tickets for life! You can enter here and be sure to take us with you when you win!
May I suggest the proper apparel for this special event? You need not limit yourself to a shirt or cap - there are some wonderful accessories including game time kids' watches. I also love the traditional banners. What fun to make this special football day your family day of being together.
