Twas a dark and quiet night. Really... It was! The kind of night that I remember from my childhood when the fall winds were approaching and the sun went down so much sooner than it had been just a month prior. Nowadays, I always feel somewhat lonely when I walk out of Caroline's room at night, leaving her in the quiet dark with just the hum of the fan to keep her company. Sure, the plushies and blankies will keep her warm in my stead, but it still takes me back to when I was young, when a fear of the dark kept me from sleeping.
The TykeLight is a small round figurine that loosely resembles a little monochrome person, the body of which is about the size of a softball. A button on the bottom turns a light on inside the figurine, and the entire piece emits a warm and soothing glow. The single button when pressed again turns the light down to a softer glow, and a third press puts the TykeLight into a "timer" mode, which shuts the light off about fifteen minutes later.
The figurine has a smooth flat bottom that allows it to be placed on a nightstand or a table and the timer feature makes it a nice night-light that shuts itself off when your little one is hopefully drifting off. If your child is as fond of the TykeLight as Caroline is of hers, the light is safe to put in their bed as well. No sharp edges or moving parts, combined with sturdy craftsmanship and internal rechargeable batteries, kept me feeling safe as I know how tricky she is at getting things open. The hard smooth plastic surface also is very easy to clean.
The rechargeable batteries run well through the night if left on, and as of yet I have never had the TykeLight lose it's charge. Since it charges as it glows however, one could put the charger near a table and leave it plugged in if needed and it would still work as the batteries were recharging. This is a very interesting and welcome addition to my daughters bed time company requests. I definitely recommend this product to anyone that was ever a little afraid of the dark, and even if you weren't it is a very warm and cute night-light.
I remember one time a while back, I was sneaking into my daughter's room to check on her. The darkness of her room had me slowly trying to make out the shape of her beneath her blanket, only to find that she was standing up in complete silence right in front of me, concealed in the darkness. My little 2T ninja. I was startled to say the least and we both laughed out loud at my silly cat burglar antics. As cute as that was however, it pales in comparison to the warmth I feel when I walk in her room now, and see her precious little face in the soft glow of her TykeLight as she peacefully sleeps, curls on her pillow.
What does Caroline think? "Blanket Please... Binky Please... Purple man please.
G'night, Daddy"
