Are you a "math person"? Many of us either love math or hate it. No matter which side of the fence you're on, the time will come when your child will begin learning math too. What can you, as a parent, do to help your child to become a "math person"? Jennifer Tuttle, a mother and elementary school teacher, asked herself the same question. As we all know, the basis behind all math concepts is numbers and counting, right?

Jennifer is the founder of Mathmosis… a counting system that makes multiplication and division as easy as 1-2-3! I received the Mathmosis CD, which is designed to teach kids math subliminally through music. The songs teach kids how to count by 1's, 2's, 5's, etc… even by 11's and 12's! The lyrics are sung by children, and incorporate playful and interesting subjects that grab kids' attention... bubbles, snowflakes, animals, the ocean - just to name a few.

At first I thought perhaps my 3 year old son was a bit too young for this concept. Right now he can count to about 30 pretty well - which is what you'd expect for his age. Well, I've been putting the CD on in the car for him while we're driving to pre-school, doing errands, whenever! Then later when we're at home I'll start to sing one of the songs, and he'll pick up where I left off. I'll make a game of it by singing a line incorrectly on purpose, and he'll laugh and tell me what I was really supposed to say. He's memorizing the words, and doesn't even realize that he's learning math concepts and counting in numbers higher than he even really knows! Jennifer Tuttle's mission accomplished!

Check out Mathmosis to learn more about Jennifer Tuttle's concept of subliminal math and how it came to fruition. The Mathmosis Music CD and other products are available for use at home or at your child's school. Kids of all ages can impress their teachers and friends, and get a jump on becoming a "math person" too!
