Have you heard about the new Cereal Straws from Kellogg's?
We saw the super cute commercial on tv and knew that we had to give 'em a try. So when a goody box arrived from the great PR folks at Kellogg's...we gathered our group of What's Hot For Tots pint sized taste testers and had a party (a milk and cereal party to be exact).
These unique cereal snack treats are made from Cocoa Krispies cereal but are in the form of a straw. Crunchy on the outside with a lining of chocolate, you drink your milk through them and eat the straw when you are done! How cool is that! It reminds me of sitting in the movie theater and watching the scene in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (yes- the original!) unfold where the entire room is made of things that are edible. Willy drinks tea from a buttercup flower and eats the cup when he is done! I would dream of being in that room… one of those lucky kids. Now, every child can be that lucky and experience the fun.
My original thought when I saw these cereal straws for the first time was about the milk that is left over in the bowl when you are done with your breakfast cereal. It seemed to me to be the perfect solution for slurping up the milk. What a bonus to get to eat the straw when you are done! For the parent who is looking for a way to get their reluctant milk drinkers to get their calcium, these are just what the doctor ordered! Calcium is essential for strong bones and combined with the fact that these are a good source of 7 different vitamins, these snacks are "mother approved". Kellogg's also makes these fun snacks from Froot Loops, which of course come in a rainbow of colors. Serving size on the box is listed at three, which we find to be just right.
As the mother of three, I am always on the lookout for a fun food treat for after-school snacks. After a day of sitting up straight at their desks and concentrating on math facts, my kids are usually craving something sweet and more often than not, chocolatey. Already big milk fans, a tall glass of chocolate milk will usually do the trick, but thanks to Kellogg's new cereal straws I can pull a new treat from the cupboard. "It turns the milk chocolatey as you drink" exclaimed several of the kids who were taste-testing them in my kitchen one afternoon. The group, ranging in age from 4 to 14 all liked the taste and loved the fun. I thought I might even like to try them with my iced coffee - one treat I reserve for myself. The cereal straws are a big hit at my house and once you've tried them, I'm sure will find the same at yours.
Cereal - It's not just for breakfast anymore!
