Memorial Day has come to be the official start of the summer season on Cape Cod and we are celebrating summer in an especially big way. Just for you we sent our Editor in Chief to a book signing event for a special new children's book. Meg met with Mary Higgins Clark and her daughter Carol Higgins Clark! These prestigious authors have been long time summer residents of Cape Cod and were excited to hear about our readership and our long standing promotion of reading with children at What's Hot For Tots.
Before I tell our special news, I know many of you wait impatiently for the release of each new novel from this wonderful duo. Mary Higgins Clark just released her 26th thriller, I Heard That Song Before. The most recent book by Carol Higgins Clark, Laced, is also a must read. If you have not read them yet, buy them, as they are great!
A favorite author for adult readers, Mary Higgins Clark has written her first book for children, Ghost Ship. This tale takes place on Cape Cod and delightfully demonstrates her special flair for mystery. It tells the story of a young boy, Thomas, who while visiting his grandmother on Cape Cod discovers a tarnished belt buckle in the sand. This belt buckle brings a wonderful story to life with the introduction of Silas Rich, a cabin boy on the Monomoy sailing ship more than 300 hundred years ago.
Ghost Ship is peppered with wonderful historical data. We learn about the mooncussers, we thrill with the heroism of the young boys of Brewster; we smile with the mysteries of the seashore and we revel in the special relationship of Thomas and his grandmother. You will marvel at the illustrations by Wendell Minor. They bring an incredible dimension to the book as they follow the story accurately and demonstrate a special feel for the shores of Cape Cod.
