The girls at WHFT are taking a vacation this week. And our destination of choice for a family friendly hot spot... Cape Cod {Dennis, MA to be exact}! After spending our summer as kids on the cape, we have an insiders track to the best {and little known} spots to enjoy with the kids.

Dennis comes into its own during the summer months, with special events every week. Home to the nation's oldest summer theater, the Cape Playhouse, Dennis offers varied summer activities, with arts and craft shows, concerts on the village green and Dennis Festival Days, held in August, which celebrate the friendly heritage of this All-American New England town.

Scargo Lake and Tower - Set on a steep hill, this 28-foot stone tower looks over the ocean to the north, Boston to the west and Provincetown to the east. Legend has it that the Indian Princess Scargo's father, the tribal chief, had squaws and children dig a pond an arrow's flight wide to save a fish given to her by a brave from a neighboring tribe. The excavated soil piled beside the lake formed Scargo Hill.

Corporation Beach - Crescent-shaped Corporation Beach, hugging Cape Cod Bay, is a popular spot on hot summer days. The curve of the beach forms a tidal pool that's perfect for children. The warm, calm bay water is great for swimming at high tide. At low tide the water recedes and reveals huge flats great for exploring and walking. It is near Sesuit Harbor, and beachgoers can pass the day watching pleasure boats sail the bay.

The Cape Cod Playhouse - The legendary Cape Playhouse has been bringing Broadway actors to Cape Cod for nearly 80 years. Often referred to as the Birthplace of the Stars, the Cape Playhouse has attracted many famous actors since its inception in 1927. Don't miss their Theater for Kids; enjoy the magic and wonder of live theatre designed especially for children.

The Cape Cod Rail Trail -  Follows a former railroad right-of-way for 22 miles through the towns of Dennis, Harwich, Brewster, Orleans, Eastham and Wellfleet. Its paved surface, few hills, and well-marked automobile crossings make it ideal for cyclists. The trail has a wide unpaved shoulder on one side to accommodate horseback riding, walkers, and runners.
