Growing up, my father always told me -in a very serious manner- "Books are precious…In human history, people went through a lot of trouble for books." He then would recount that his grandfather used to give him a 5 Franc coin every Sunday for the bus to go to his boarding school, and that he would always save the little rest of that money to buy a book.
I am lucky enough to now be able to share that same respect for books with my own daughter. "Don't bite the book", I was already telling my 6-month old teething baby, "…your grandfather's grandfather used to…" Now that she is two years old and that her love and respect for books has developed, she became a tiny literary critic. Her latest "must-read" tip to tots is: The First Adventures of Incredible You, by Custom Made for Kids.
This beautifully illustrated book was written in a happy lyrical manner by two talented moms of two, Sarah Headrick and Sarah Rivera, for and about my daughter. Seriously! Needless to say she feels special!
All along the book, she is living fun adventures in places she knows -for real- with relatives: going to a Red Sox ball game with Grandpa, eating Grandma's famous fruit salad, riding her bike with Papa, gazing at the stars with Auntie C., dancing with Auntie G., etc. It is, in other words, her favorite book and she naturally recommends it to everyone.
The best part about that book is that, thanks to the writers' flair, there is also a copy that was written for and about your tot…seriously!
